I have to say, that was an awesome party!!  Thanks to Jay and his committee!!  It was definitly worth the flight.
At first I thought that 7-12 was a long time, but wow, I didn't get to talk to everyone I wanted to!  As many have learned, I'm hoping to be moving back to CT next year, so I'm sure I won't have to wait till our 40th reunion to see everyone again.  The annual Captain's Cove must continue!  Our class was/is a tight knit group, let's get tighter!
Happiness to All......Pegs

to all those that attended reunion, kudos to us!! And of couse all those that put their time and energy into making it possible!!!!! A little joke, a woman went to her reunion feeling as if she didn't look or feel a day older than when she graduated.  She started speaking to a person  and inwardly thought they looked old and haggered, she couldn't help but ask if he was from her graduating class, he responded yes and asked her what class she had taught! haha to her!!

Thank you to all who worked on the reunion commitee, your patience and dedication made a wonderful event possible. Jay, Cindy, Dana, Jerry, etc., you are all awesome! This was my first reunion and it was so great to see everyone. I am glad to see that as a whole we are all doing and looking so well. I had a wonderful time thought I do wish there was more time to catch up. I guess you can't cram 30yrs into one evening! Now that I am aware of our reunions I will have to get back for more! Thanks again for all the work and effort!

A thank you to: Jay, Laura Belle, Laura Krivada, Dana, Rich, Jerry, Frank, Dave Thommen, The Simons and the Washburns: It wasn't until about a week and a half before reunion that I found out I could go. Several of my friends here thought I was nuts to be so excited about it. Not one person said they'd gone to theirs, or had fun if they did. I never doubted my decision. I tried to explain to them that after 30 years, I believed my "peers" would let go of any issues, fears, concerns or resentments they might have. That at this point we would just reconnect and have fun. Maybe it's the sign of the times. Maybe we all just needed to let loose for a while. But I truly believe that there are bonds that were formed early in our lives that will never break. I had a blast. My only regret? That I hadn't connected with more of you during school. Hope it’s not too late. Best wishes from California. AmyCK

I consider myself fortunate to have been a a part of the commitee that brought this gathering together. To see how much work that Jay Sanza ,Cindy +Jay Washburn, Laura Belle Nichols, Laura Krivada,  Jerry Weglinski, Frank Zeleny,DaveThommen, Nancy Cole, and all the others did so that our class could get together again. I had a great time working with the commitee and would gladly volunteer to help for the next get together. I encourage all that showed up to try and track down those on the missing list  and get them to put in thier current information on our web site. Try to keep your contact info current too. This will save the next group many hours of research time on the internent and a whole lot of postage (right Cindy!) See ya all next time

To the class of 78,
This was a great celebration. I am in awe that 30 years has gone by....i would like to say everyone looks pretty darn good, but i am more impressed by the girls in our class, they are awesome, and looks like everyone is taking good care of themselves. Jay Sanza et al are awesome! It was literally one of the best parties I have ever been to, from the hors'doeuvres, to the buffet dinner and the open bar!!! Even a fireworks show on the beach ala Dave Ford! And most people were up to the same anticks they were up to in highschool! I got to see and talk to the very first boy I kissed, and he has turned out to be one heck of a guy! I can only wish the best for everyone and that through the years we can get together and share and remember the times of our lives. I hope the picnic was a real blast too. A special shout out to Edythe, Louise, Lorri, Karen, Kim, and Darice, the ol' gang...where is More Gorm??? Anyway, signing off and I will have some pictures to post.

My husband Jay (Washburn) & I would like to thank Jay & Ann Sanza for all the sacrifices made planning this fantastic event as it took away from their personal and family life. We consider ourselves fortunate that his efforts brought us together. There would be no celebration without you, Jay. You stepped up and got the job done.

A round of applause goes out to all who helped (Laura-Belle, Laura, Jerry, Dana, Nancy, Dave, Frank etc.) Over the time it took to put this thing together there were many people who participated in its success. You know who you are. Take a bow!

Anthony’s was the perfect choice. We had such a great time, reconnecting with so many fun and fascinating people. The night went by so fast and there were still so many people we didn’t get to talk to.  Big hugs go out to all who attended the after party in room 221. Restores my faith that we still got it!

We would like to nominate:
Jay Sanza for a Purple Heart for displaying patience and perseverance in adversity above and beyond the call of duty.
&
Lorri Flagg as Ms. Congeniality 2008.
We think her crowning should be the theme of our next event

Please keep in contact

I couldn't possibly have had a more enjoyable time!  Thanks again to Jay, Cindy, and everybody who helped to make this such a great reunion.

I always have told people that even though our class was so big, we were extremely close and bonded for some reason.  I felt that way the day I left in 1978 and the reunions keep reinforcing it.  People will always say something like, "My high school class was NEVER like that, you should feel fortunate and lucky."

I know that most of us do feel that way, and I look forward to the yearly get togethers at the Cove  and especially the in- between get togethers!  Now here's the important good stuff:

As briefly as I can tell the story (which won't be all that brief),  most people don't know why and how these reunions started coming together a few years ago.  The karma is too cool to ignore...

In July of 1986, two of my best friends were killed by a drunk driver.  They went to Ludlowe and graduated the same year as us - Michael Albert and Russell Gordon.  They were two of the greatest people and friends anybody could ever have.  I was devastated for months and months and part of me will always be affected by the accident.  I think about them virtually every day.

A few years after they were killed, Mike's mother let me come to their house, go through Mike's bedroom (which was virtually still intact), and take a few things to have of Mike's.  One of the things she let me have was a beautiful Klattu type ring he had in a drawer - like a puzzle ring that doesn't come apart - two hands closing to clasp around a heart.  The sentimentality was undeniable and I wore the ring every single day for years until a few years ago when it broke.  I asked my wife to recommend a jeweler...we had just movcd back to CT from Colorado and didn't really know a local one...she recommended a place in Shelton Square.

I am trying to keep this as short as possible, but it is really an amazing story.  I go in with the ring and start to tell the the story behind it.  The jeweler stops me and asks, "Are you talking about Michael Albert?"  I said yes, and he said that he not only knew Mike's parents, he also knew the parents of the guy that killed them!  How bizarre is that?  I was floored.

I could not believe how weird that was, but it got even stranger (in a good way).  While they were fixing the ring I was talking with one of the jewelers.  He turned out to be Alan Klein, who graduated a year or two before us at Warde.  We were doing the "did you know so and so?" thing and finding out that we knew a ton of the same people.

As I was about to leave he said, "Oh, did you know Jay Sanza?"  I said sure, that I had been close friends with him until we lost touch about 20 years earlier.  He said, "I've been best friends with him for the LAST 20 years!!"

He called Jay's cellphone, we talked as if about 4 days had passed since we last saw each other, and we decided to get together.  It turned out that I drove by his house to go to work every day and never knew it was his!  We live about 8 minutes away from each other and had no idea.

We talked about the fact that we never had a 25th reunion and how cool would it be to try to get people together.  A few calls and emails led to the first one at the Cove, which led to the second, and finally led to this.

Thanks for finishing the story.  Something good always comes out of something bad, but this is the topper of them all.  Think we were all meant to get back together??

Cherish these friendships, because you never know, ya know?

Til the next one,

Rich

Jay,
Thanks for all the time that you put into this reunion.   It was a lot of fun working with you and the rest of the committee.  Definitely worth all the hard work and frustration that we went through.  I am really happy that I had the chance to reconnect with everyone.
This was the first reunion that I have been to and I had a great time.  I think we are all holding up well after 30 years !
